The entourage of Pret A Diner have touched back down in London to present The Bohemians – from Rogues to Royals at Cafe Royal Hotel, which will celebrate the clash of cultures and the reconciliation of opposites – making for a truly unique dining experience. I attended their launch event to get a preview of what the quirky pop-up concept restaurant has in store for its four week residency in London.
“To all the wanderers, adventurers and vagabonds: Let’s all live the unconventional lifestyle, enjoy the company of like-minded people, indulge in delicious, food, music and inspiring art.”
Cafe Royal’s Domino Room was transformed with neon lighting, caucuses, towering bouquets of flowers and walls adorned with archaic style artwork curated by The Unit London. It all came together to create a distinctively unique dining atmosphere of quirky decadence.
Bohemian Punch : Gin and jasmine tea punch.
The Pret a Diner chefs include a Michelin star studded line up; Café Royal ‘s very own executive chef Andrew Turner along with two New York based rising chef talents chef Patti Jackson and chef Ryan Tate.
Starter : (right) Tuna Carpaccio, Gentleman’s Relish (by Andrew Turner). (left) Pea and Sorrel (by Ryan Tate), Cheese and Truffle (by Andrew Turner), Baltimore Style Crab, Pickled Ramps and Dutchy pretzels (by Patti Jackson).
At first glance the food was eye-catching and presented beautifully, utilising modern nouvelle cooking techniques such as spherification.
Main : (lef) Seabass Piquillo Pepper, Fennel and Dill (by Andrew Turner).
We certainly came away impressed – the food was beautifully presented, exciting and most importantly of all, it delivered on flavour.
The Club at Cafe Royal is to collaborate with Dominic Jacobs from The Whip Mayfair to create a drinks menu that will see a “Boho revolution in Soho”.
Cocktails : ‘Dikki Dikki’ Sloe Gin, Honey Whiskey, Peach Essence and Champagne.
From the décor and artwork to the cocktails and the colourful dishes on the menu – it all worked in synergy together to create an immersive and holistically fabulous dining experience, making it perhaps one of the most exciting places to dine out in London right now. The Pret A Diner pop up restaurant will be at The Club at the Cafe Royal Hotel in London from 21st April until 23rd May. Tickets are £75 per person (or £100 with wine) and include a 4 course menu, snack sharing plate from 3 different chefs, petits fours & coffee. Tickets are available online as of now.
