If, like me, you love a good ocean view, then I have a great place in Cornwall to show you.  The Polurrian Bay Hotel is perched on the cliffs of the Lizard Peninsula, so it has some incredibly stunning views out across the ocean for as far as the eye can see.

I’d not been to Polurrian Bay Hotel for years – in 2011 it came under new ownership and subsequent major renovation, so I was keen to check out its new look.

The Vista Lounge area boasts the most incredible panoramic, floor to ceiling views of the water – it’s also stylishly  furnished and family friendly.  Originally, we had only planned to swing by for a quick drink, however we were so in awe of the view and were having such a lovely time that we decided to stay for dinner.

Luckily enough they had space for us in their main formal dining restaurant, which has a 2AA Rosette rating.

The formal dining restaurant also has massive windows, so the ocean and sunset can be enjoyed whilst you dine.  It gets flooded with warm hues of light that create a wonderful atmosphere.  It’s the perfect setting for leisurely dining and de-stressing.

We both opted for the homemade breadboard with extra virgin olive oil for starter and the spring vegetable risotto, made with baby vegetables and truffle foam, for main.  The chefs were very accommodating in ensuring my main was vegan.  Apologies for not getting any photos of the main, we were both very hungry and stuck right in.

For dessert, I went for the only vegan option, which was a trio of delicious fruit sorbets, including mango, lime and raspberry.

Joe (who’s plant based but not vegan) went for the soufflé, which came with shortbread and raspberry sorbet.

The evening’s food was splendid.  It was beautifully presented and was made from local produce, and you could really tell, as it tasted very fresh and flavourful.

We were feeling very full by the time we were finished and so we decided to head down to the beach, which is just a short walk away from Polurrian Bay Hotel.  We watched the rest of the sunset over the water until it was completely dark – it was a little bit of pure Cornish magic.

It was a delightful evening and I will surely be dining at Polurrian Bay Hotel again in the future – I would definitely say it’s worth traveling out of the way for, for dinner.
