My good friend Thys and I have a lot of common interests and the appreciation of drinks with a good view is one of them. One of our mutual favourite hangouts in London, where he lives, is the Aqua at the Shard, because of its fantastic view.
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to rooftop bars in Bangkok. My unwavering favourite, not just in Bangkok but the world over, will always be the Sirocco Sky Bar at the Lebua State Tower. However, I’d heard good things about the Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree, so we decided to check it out and see how it compared.
Located up on the 61st floor, the Moon Bar’s 360 degree views were just as impressive ad I’d hoped. I do love a good nighttime cityscape.
Also impressive were the nifty backlit drinks menus. More bars need to cotton on to this genius!
Can’t go wrong with a good Old Fashioned (for him)!
Moon Bar has a great atmosphere to it, especially considering the bar area is completely open air. The friendly staff provide attentive table service and the skilled mixologists have put together an extensive menu of classic and custom cocktails to be enjoyed.
We had a splendid evening at Moon Bar Banyan Tree and I’d definitely recommend checking it out if you visit Bangkok. Although do bear in mind that it can get very busy and there’s also a dress code. If you are looking for a bite to eat then there’s also the Vertigo restaurant alongside, which is very popular, so pre-booking is advisable.
