LANCASHIRE & THE LAKE DISTRICT

Sometimes, the best thing in the world is to take a little hiatus from all of the usual distractions of modern life and escape to rurality.  I always find spending a little time with Mother Nature to be incredibly therapeutic, like it recharges one’s batteries.  One of my favourite green places to escape to is the Lake District, where I go at least once a year…this one being no exception.

On this particular trip to the Lake District, we decided to explore around Lancashire border, an area around the National Park that we had not been to before.  On our previous trip we did the famous Striding Edge route, along with Scafel Pikee the highest mountain above sea level in England.

Just as its name suggests, there are many lakes in the Lake District, or ‘tarns’ as they are also known.  In the summertime they can be nice to swim in, if you are prepared to brave the cold of course.  I recommend checking out the WildSwim website to find out where all of the best freshwater swimming locations in the UK, including some great locations in and around the Lake District.  I dare you to give it a go at least once!  It’s great fun.

We decided to take on Wrynose Pass, which is located by Lancashire boarder, near Little Langdale.  The accent wasn’t too strenuous and we made it to the top in around 2-3 hours.  The visibility was perfect with clear blue skies and the rolling views from the top which stretched for miles were nothing short of breathtaking – well worth the trek.

With several miles on the pedometer, achey legs and a satiating fix of the great outdoors we headed home.  If you are in need of a break from the hustle and bustle then get your boots on and take a hike!  The Lake District is an incredible place to go and now that the warmer weather is beginning to grace us once again, there’s no better time to go.  See you there in the summer?
