My best friend and I recently visited London and as neither of us had been to the capital for a while, we decided to pack our visit full of touristy things. Whilst walking around, we considered going on the London Eye, but when we saw the lengthly queues we decided otherwise, as we had not pre-booked.
Then I remembered the Emirates Air Line cable car, from which there are also great views. It opened a few years ago and I’d been meaning to check out ever since, but just never got round to it. The weather was nice and sunny, so it was a perfect opportunity – we headed over to Greenwich Peninsula to give it a go.
The cable car runs between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, taking you over the Thames, where you will be able to spot most of London’s most iconic attractions. Each way takes about 10 minutes, so you’ll have plenty of time to take in the view, and of course snap a few photos.
It’s quite a novelty, if like me, you’ve never been on a cable car. You can pay using your Oyster card, if not it’s about £10 for a return, non-stop ‘flight’, which is great value. There’s also the option to get off at the other side and have a look around, before returning.
If you’ve not had a ride on the Emirates Air Line cable car yet, I would recommend it. Plus, it sure beats getting the tube!
